Rural art at the Arts Hut Gallery in Herstmonceux

Arts Hut Gallery is the ‘creatively cosy’ home and studio of artist Anna Wilson-Patterson, located in the centre of the sleepy village of Herstmonceux, East Sussex.  The Gallery’s unique theme is ‘home-grown rural art’ with most of the 21 artists and designers living within 15 miles of the Gallery. The quarterly exhibitions showcase a wonderful selection of their work including paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles and glass.

Rustic and elegant with warming wooden floorboards, The Gallery is a lovely place to browse and shop. There’s a superb selection of items for sale, all of which would make unique gifts for family and friends. When we last visited there were traditional Sussex trugs, contemporary fine art paintings and kitchenware as well as a vast selection of beautiful greeting cards. The super friendly Anna can usually be found apron on, brush in hand, painting away in her studio, and is always happy to talk through the exhibits.

Should you need to mull over a prospective purchase then I thoroughly recommend parking up in the village car park and popping into the The Woolpack Inn for some of their tasty food. I’d also recommend a visit during June when Anna holds a Studio Sale – if you’re lucky, you can pick up one of her fantastic paintings for a snip.
